Hacks do happen, even big corporations like Facebook have been hacked. Hacks ruin lives and destroy businesses. We live in a digitised world, guarding against or mitigating the risk of being hacked is an important skill in our age.

There are two main reasons people get hacked; flaws in software and flaws in our own behaviour and usage of digital products. Here are ways you can help yourself:

Use Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is a security process in which users provide two different authentication factors to verify themselves. It adds an additional layer of security to the authentication process and makes it harder for attackers to gain access to a person’s devices or online accounts.

Even if the victim’s password is hacked, a password alone is not enough to pass the authentication check.

Quit Using The Same Password For Everything

It is risky for you to deploy the same password for all your accounts and sites in this age. Cyber criminals are on the prowl and if they get their fingers on the password to one of your accounts, be sure they’ll try it everywhere. Using unique passwords for your accounts is non-negotiable.

Get A Password Manager

You are not the only one always forgetting the password to your account. A Password Manager will solve that problem permanently. It is a software program that helps store and even create strong passwords for you.

It is no longer safe to use “1234” or your birthdate as your password. You must also know that the longer your password the harder it takes to hack it.

Be Careful In Sharing Sensitive Information About Yourself

Be wary of sharing your personal information with others; your birthdate, where you grew up, family info and so on. These info are personal so keep it personal. People can dig into you with your personal information.

Take An Ethical Hacking Course

With a skill like Ethical Hacking you will be able to conduct investigations and analyses of the target systems. You will be able to identify any security or system vulnerabilities from the hacker’s point of view and suggest a remedy. We teach Ethical Hacking here in Univelcity.
